2010

No, we didn't go to Jupiter or make contact with alien life, instead...

I learned to weld:

I continued to have an awesome girlfriend:

I got a sweet new computer:

I took up a new variety of silly human tricks for fun and exercise:

I didn't get any fatter (but didn't make any progress the other way either)

And I quit my job of three years at Google to go work at a nifty little startup called Aprigo.

In all it was a pretty good year. It definitely ended on up note because of starting the new job in November. The job at the big software company had been dragging along and being very frustrating and depressing, mired in bureaucracy and big company politics. The new company is tiny by comparison and nimble and changing fast and I have bosses and customers who are eager to get every new feature I make and it's really exciting.

On a middling note my wonderful girlfriend, Lieselot, left at Thanksgiving to go travel the world for five months. She's in New Zealand now for several months and at the end of January I'm going to go see her.

I had been keeping up with my old gymnastics and acrobatics class, but a few months ago it got cancelled due to trouble with the venue. It eventually restarted at a time and place that doesn't quite work for me now. While I was waiting for that I took up something new, "aerial silks" (actually nylon or polyester, but a big pretty shimmery piece of cloth anyway). The trick is to climb up two big pieces of cloth and wrap them around in some way so as to be suspended or do rolls and flips in some cool way. I've just been doing that for a month and a half but it's fun and a good challenge. There will be more of that in 2011.

There was also lots of swing and blues dancing. And tinkering on redistricting and other projects. That will be a big deal in 2011, watch for updates on my redistricting blog. That and other things are good to look forward to in 2011. I'm starting off running, already with about two days in the next month and a half not scheduled for something. Whee!
