How much does it cost to go on the Tour?

The Tour is free. The Tour has been underwritten by a variety of nonprofit and public agencies and local businesses.

Where does the Tour start?

The starting point of the Tour is Presidio Springs Center, 721 Laguna Street. There you will receive a booklet with the names and addresses of the tour sites and a map.

When can I start on the Tour?

You can start from Presidio Springs anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All sites will close by 4 p.m.

How can I travel from one site to another?

1) By bus --Tour buses will leave Presidio Springs every 20 minutes from 10:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. (The last bus starts at Presidio Springs at 1 p.m.) 2) By carpool -- At Presidio Springs carpools will be encouraged and arranged. 3) By car

Where does the tour go?

The tour features eight well-designed and well-maintained affordable housing projects in Santa Barbara and Goleta. Taken as a whole, these projects provide affordable housing to very low income, low income, and middle income families, seniors, singles, and people with special needs in our community. The housing includes apartments, condominiums, and houses. Some developments offer rental housing. Others offer homeownership. To protect the privacy of the residents, site locations will not be announced until the day of the Tour. Come to Presidio Springs, 721 Laguna Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 29th to get a booklet describing the tour sites and a map.

How long does the Tour take?

If you go to all eight stops and spend 15 minutes at each stop, it will take you 3 to 3 1/2 hours to complete the Tour.

Do I have to go on the whole tour?

No. If you are traveling by tour bus, you can stay on the bus when it stops at a particular site to let passengers off and then proceed immediately to the next site. If you are traveling by carpool or individual car, you can choose which sites to visit and for how long.

Do you need volunteers on the day of the Tour? How can I help?

Yes! Come to a volunteer training session on Sunday, September 23rd, at 11:30 a.m. in Parish Hall of the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, 1535 Santa Barbara Street (corner of Arrellaga), SB. We need volunteers to be greeters, staff the registration table, direct parking, direct people flow, help with the food table, and other tasks. Volunteers will work in three shifts: A. 9 a.m. to noon B. 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. C. 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Shifts have been timed so that you'll still have time to go on the tour yourself.

Who will be at the tour sites?

There will be: 1) site experts -- developers and property managers who know the site inside and out 2) residents -- people who live in the complex being featured 3) tour volunteers -- members of the community who are there to help
