Once upon a time, pretty much all Macintosh software was pretty good. It had to be.
The old Macintosh, good for it's day, was eventually chided greatly for it's lack of protected memory by UNIX advocates and later Windows advocates. But still, there was some pretty good software on the Mac. It had to be written well because if it wasn't people wouldn't use it. Sofware that destabilized or outright crashed your computer didn't win any love from the populous.
Lack of memory protection put the fear of pointers in you, and taught you to use them with the proper respect and paranoia they deserve since you had full knowledge of what they could do.
Now, software sucks. It's OK if software crashes since it only crashes itself. The user just groans at it and restarts it. The result is that through an improved operating system, the user experience has gotten worse. The groans-at-computer per day have increased. Software Quality has decreased.
